Neuron's Gain and Comp controls were both designed to have an incredible amount of range. The Gain control adds as much as 68 dB of gain. Comp adjusts both threshold and gain simultaneously: it adds gain as you increase the control to compensate for lowering the threshold.

Since 68 dB was the maximum amount of gain we could add before noise becomes objectionable, you should be careful about using the compressor (which adds more gain) when the Gain control is at or close to maximum. In fact, with the gain level this high, the compressor will have little audible effect other than simply adding noise.

We recommend that, when the Gain control set at 75% or higher, you limit the Comp control to 25% or lower.
